BUTLERVILLE, Ind - Muscatatuck Urban Training Center is holding an Open House on Saturday, Oct. 6 and you are invited! This year, the Open House will include a 5K Zombie Fun Run on Friday, Oct. 5.
The public is invited to the Open House which will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the facility located in Butlerville on U.S. 50. across from Brush Creek Elementary School.
“We want to show you what goes on at Muscatatuck,” said Lt. Col. Dale Lyles, MUTC site commander. “Not only do we train our Soldiers, but emergency responders and civilians in a variety of jobs.”
On Friday, the gates of Muscatatuck will be open for the 5K Zombie Fun Run at 5 p.m. with the run taking place from 6 – 7 p.m. For more details on the Zombie Run, contact Erin Pyle at (812) 767-3770. All roads through the facility will be closed during the run to traffic.
The Indiana National Guard was handed the keys to the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in July of 2005 in order to turn the site into the Army’s premiere urban training facility.
The facility itself has been around since 1920 when the Indiana Farm Colony for Feeble Minded Boys was opened here. From 1938 to 1950, several art deco and art moderne buildings were constructed on the site during the Public Works Administration build-up. These one-of-a-kind buildings have been painstakingly cared for and continue to be kept up by the military.
The public will be able to see for themselves exactly how the buildings are maintained and utilized as a world-class training site. Driving and walking tours will be given throughout the day and several activities will be provided for younger members of the family.
MUTC staff will be on-hand to answer questions and show displays that explain the various vehicles, weapons systems, and training techniques used at the site.
